Failure Codes

Failure codes are used to identify the reason for the malfunction of an asset, for example, Improper Maintenance or Accidental Damage. These values populate the Failure Code drop-down menu on the Logbook module's Request Details and Work Order Financial pages.

To open the Failure Codes page:

  1. Open the Administration Menu page.

  2. Under the ASSET ADMIN heading, click Failure Codes.

ClosedAdd a Failure Code

To add a failure code:

  1. In the Add Failure Code field, enter the name of the failure code.

This is the value that will be displayed to users.

Failure codes can be up to 50 characters long.

Failure code names must be unique. If you attempt to add a failure code that already exists, an error message will appear. The system does not consider failure code names that are differentiated only by character case or spaces to be unique. For example, if you create a failure code named "Not Maintained", creating a failure code named "notMaintained" or " Not Maintained " is not allowed.

  2. Click ADD.

A dialog box opens asking you to confirm your choice.

  3. Click OK.

ClosedEdit a Failure Code

Once you have created a failure code, you can further define it or edit it. To edit a failure code:

  1. In the Failure Code field, select the code to edit.

  2. To change the name of the failure code, enter a value in the Rename field.

Failure codes can be up to 50 characters long.

Failure code names must be unique. If you attempt to rename a failure code to a name that already exists, an error message will appear. The system does not consider failure code names that are differentiated only by character case or spaces to be unique. For example, if the failure code "Not Maintained" exists, renaming a failure code "notMaintained" or " Not Maintained " is not allowed.

All historical information will reflect the new value.

  3. To change the status, select a value from the Status field.

Asset statuses with a status of Inactive are not displayed to users. However, inactivating an asset status does not affect the existing assets that utilize it.

  4. Skip the Enum field; this field is reserved for future implementation.

  5. Click UPDATE.

ClosedDelete a Failure Code

Failure codes that have not been used can be deleted from the system.

Failure codes that have been used on a work order cannot be deleted, but they can be inactivated to prevent users from accessing them.

To delete a failure code:

  1. In the Failure Code field, select the value to delete.

  2. Click DELETE.

A dialog box opens asking you to confirm your choice.

  3. Click OK.
